Rangoon and Mandalay

Kyaw Soe, our guide and a devoted Buddhist, introduces us to nuns at a nunnery. They are distinguished by their pink robes. We participated in a ceremony including donation of rice to each nun dipped from a 50 lb bag with a cup.

Next in Mandalay we visited a large monastery. Here the monks are lined up for their mid-day noon meal.

We joined Clark to visit a store/art museum specializing in Burmese artifacts. These women are creating a hanging which is a copy of a musuem piece.

We climbed Mandalay Hill in late afternoon to visit the temple at the top with a view of the city and surroundings. Although the industrious among us hiked up the 1729 steps, we "roughed it" by cramming into a tiny Toyota pickup taxi outfitted with hard seats and a canvas roof.
